Surgo weathering the storm

NEWCASTLE builder Surgo Construction has put the finishing touches to its latest social housing scheme as it looks to stave off the effects of the recession with the help of a series of new projects.
Working on behalf of longstanding client, social housing provider Isos Housing Group, Surgo has completed a development of 13 timber frame bungalows at Kingsbridge Close, off Wallsend Road in North Shields.
The project has a build value of £1.2m and has taken Surgo 28 weeks to complete.
Surgo, which has a turnover of around £52m, has been involved in a number of high-profile developments over the last few months, having recently put the finishing touches to the £8m redevelopment of Whitley Bay playhouse.
It has won a £25m contract to rebuild the Hebburn campus as part of the £102m revamp of South Tyneside College. Surgo director Jeff Alexander said: “We have a proven track record in the social housing sector and this latest completion is one of several similar projects we have successfully delivered for Isos.
“We are very much looking forward to continuing to build on this success and undertake more projects of a similar nature in the future.
“Outside of this sector we have recently been awarded some additional contracts which typify our core business.”
