Gateshead Housing Company win green grants

Alan Sandey of Gateshead Housing examines the new lighting with Gordon Beattie of the Energy Saving Trust

A HOUSING company has won a grant to fit new lighting to two Gateshead tower blocks which will make them more environmentally friendly.

Gateshead Housing Company got £92,000 from the Energy Saving Trust to fit out Redheugh and Eslington Courts, in Teams, Gateshead.

The grant was made after a successful bid from the housing company as part of its work to make Gateshead a greener, more sustainable place to live.

The funding has provided new energy saving LED light fittings for communal and external areas around the block, which are more efficient to run and are better for the environment.

The Energy Saving Trust is a UK organisation focused on promoting action that leads to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

Alan Sandey, tenant liaison manager, said: “The housing company is committed to helping the environment by creating a greener, more sustainable Gateshead.”

Bill Fullen, chief executive at the Gateshead Housing Company, said: “The improvements made gives customers a chance to save money and make an important contribution towards helping the environment.”
