Constructing Excellence Awards honour achievements

Constructing Excellence 2010 Awards
The winners celebrate their success at the Constructing Excellence 2010 Awards

THE North East’s top construction projects and organisations have been named at the seventh annual Constructing Excellence in the North East (CENE) Awards.

More than 80 entrants competed across 12 categories for the industry gongs, with awards recognising top-quality work in all areas of the region.

The awards ceremony, one of the highlights of the construction industry’s calendar, brought together the cream of the North East’s clients, contractors and consultants to toast best practice.

This year, a total of 530 people attended a black tie dinner at the Gosforth Park Hotel in Newcastle, where the prestigious Project of the Year award went to The Hub, in Barnard Castle, which also won the Legacy Award for Sustainability.

The new-build youth facility was seen as both innovative and sustainable, providing an excellent community facility.

CENE’s chief executive Catriona Lingwood said: “Once again, we had an excellent collection of entrants to the awards and, as a result, enjoyed an evening celebrating some superb projects, companies and individuals.

“The spread of quality came from all across the North East and the awards reflected excellence throughout the region’s construction community.

“This is despite a tough year that has seen many in the sector struggle.

“These winners, as well as those commended and even the nominees who were good enough to make the shortlists, are shining examples of where people have continued to strive for the highest possible standards in tough conditions and all are to be congratulated.”
