A SMALL family run roofing company says it is set to add more than £1m to its sales after expanding into property development and outgrowing its current office.
Washington-based Findley Roofing and Building has seen impressive growth since being handed down by previous owner Brian Findley to his son Grant, 29, in 2008, with its turnover rising from £200,000 to around £1m.
The company has benefited from a succession of harsh winters, which have seen more homeowners requiring emergency repairs to the their roofs.
This has helped Findley grow the business from a one-man band to a company that now employs 16 staff and operates a fleet of 10 vans.
While larger firms within the construction sector have been reluctant to invest over recent years, Findley has been keen to expand into other areas, including property development.
The firm is currently completing the construction of a three flat apartment block in South Shields, which it plans to lease out, as well as a family home in Hebburn.
The company has also taken the unusual route of securing a consumer credit licence after teaming up with Barclays and Shermin Finance to offer its customers an affordable way to pay for new roofing on a monthly basis.
As a result of recent growth, the firm is now looking to expand into adjoining offices at Armstrong Industrial Estate, which will see it double its floor space to 8,000sq ft.
