BARRATT site managers swept the board at the National House Building Council’s Pride In The Job North East regional awards with Andy Dawson winning the top award for his exceptional workmanship.

Dawson was presented with the coveted regional award in the large builder category and will now represent the North East in the national finals in January.

Three other Barratt North East site managers were also recognised for their quality workmanship at the awards.

Dawson, 37, has worked for Barratt for 13 years and is in charge at the housebuilder’s Burton Woods development at Whitworth Park in Spennymoor, County Durham, where he heads a 30-strong construction team.

The Pride In The Job awards are organised by the NHBC to find the best-run building sites in Britain and are the most prestigious in the industry.

Dawson said: “I’m delighted to win the award, but it’s really down to the great people producing excellent work here.

“You need the right people all working together to build a top quality new home and it takes a real team effort.”

The regional award is his tenth NHBC award in recent years and he has also previously won the Barratt Group’s national site manager of the year title.

Geoff Egginton, NHBC regional director for the North East, said: “Pride in the Job has been instrumental in raising the build quality of new homes in the UK for over three decades, with many house builders now routinely striving for perfection in their work.

“A Pride in the Job award at any level marks the recipient out as a top performer, showing their true diligence and commitment to producing the best quality homes possible, but to win a Regional title demonstrates something just that little bit special.”

Mike Roberts, managing director of Barratt North East said: “This is a fantastic achievement and we’re absolutely delighted for Andy.

“He thoroughly deserves this award for the skills he brings to the job every day and his dedication to building the very best homes. His attention-to-detail is first-class.”

The three other site managers who won Seals of Excellence are Graeme Simpson, in charge at Mandale Park, Thornaby; Mark Summersgill at The Limes in Coxhoe; and Adrian Irwin, site manager for sister company David Wilson Homes at Riverside Crescent, Blaydon.

Roberts added: “Once again our site teams have shown they are among the best in the business and I am extremely proud of their achievements.

“These awards are not only recognition of their excellent workmanship, but also give added reassurance to our buyers. Standards are higher and competition is keener than ever before, which underlines the care and skill put into the construction of our new homes.”

The Pride in the Job awards are made after the NHBC carries out inspections to check all the key stages of building a home, from laying the foundations through to completion, before selecting the best-organised and best-quality developments.

Over 13,000 site managers were judged on every aspect of their job, including technical skill, quality workmanship, customer service and site safety.
