CONTRACTS worth more than £20m have given building giant Miller Construction reason to celebrate in the final quarter of the year.
The latest wins include a contract for the £3.2m maintenance headquarters on behalf of Network Rail, and a £3.2m food outlet project at the Metrocentre Retail Park in Gateshead.
Works have also commenced on a £7m retail project at Halewood Shopping Centre for Neptune Projects Ltd and Middlesbrough Sixth Form College, a £6.8m project which will see the delivery of a new sixth form centre.
Chief executive Chris Webster said: “These contract wins for our North region secure a positive workload going forward into 2012. These projects cover three of our key target markets, education, retail and rail.
“Remaining true to our strategy, which we set out at the start of 2011, these contract wins are the result of us focusing our efforts to achieve our strategic goals. We identified rail as a market which we wanted to enter and our commitment to seeing our aims achieved has led to securing our first contract in this sector as part of our new strategy. We have an unrivalled reputation in the education market for the delivery of exceptional learning environments and our work in the retail market is exemplary.”
He added: “2012 will see us continue to focus on our strategy – to consistently deliver quality without compromise. Over the last 12 months we have remained true to our core values which see us working in complete collaboration with our clients and their stakeholders.
“We remain confident that this approach, coupled with our focused efforts will continue to deliver results for the business.”
Works on Network Rail’s North East maintenance headquarters will begin in February.
The contract is for a two-storey building totaling 2,070 sq m, including office space, welfare and flexible training facilities and storage space for trackside maintenance vehicles.
The brown field site off Askew Road in Gateshead sits alongside the existing rail line with a new access to be formed through existing railway property.
Due for completion in 2012, the new building will be occupied by 300 staff, relocated from existing offices and sub-depots.
The contract at the Metrocentre, to be known as MetrOasis will see a former petrol filling station site developed into a single-storey building, divided into food outlets, Starbucks; Krispy Kreme; Harvester and Toby Carvery. Starbucks and Krispy Kreme will have drive-through facilities and due for completion in August 2012.
