Wallsend-born Sting, sixth on the North East list, has seen £20m trimmed off his fortune, down to £180m, despite the $360m generated by The Police’s reunion tour.
And Mark Knopfler, the former Dire Straits guitarist and singer who was raised in Newcastle, is valued at £60m, down £10m from this time last year, putting him equal 19th on the regional list.
Former Newcastle owner Sir John Hall also makes the cut, his fortune of £65m putting him 18th in the region and 863rd nationally.
Other familiar names on the list include Graham Wylie, founder of Newcastle-based software giant Sage. Coming in seventh on the list, his value has fallen by a quarter, from £200m to £150m
