Advice for landlords on business rental problems

A FREE seminar to help landlords and property experts navigate a path through the thorny issues of maintaining rental income from struggling business tenants takes place next week.

The event, entitled Managing and Avoiding Tenant Default in Tighter Times, has been organised by the commercial property team at Sintons law firm on Wednesday.

Sintons partner Paul Liddle said: “The property industry has been one of the hardest hit in the current downturn.

“In a climate where the capital value of property is falling, ensuring that the rental income stream from commercial property is preserved and maximised has never been more important.

“Interruption of the rental stream through tenant default or tenants breaking leases can cause catastrophic problems for landlords who rely on this income.”

The seminar will outline the strategies, tactics and legal remedies that landlords can employ to recover rent from tenants who have defaulted or are likely to default on their contractual obligations. Partner Hilary Parker, said: “Legal expertise and heavyweight practical experience count even more in difficult times.

“Our commercial property department led by four partners advises clients including the Church Commissioners, SITA, Thompson’s of Prudhoe, the Secretary of State for Health, Northumbrian Water, Hunting plc, Amec plc and many North East property investors.

“This wealth of experience has delivered cost-effective results for many landlords through pragmatic, commercial approaches to tenant problems.”

Partners Paul Liddle and Hilary Parker, and commercial property litigation specialist, Gavin Winter, will be speaking at the seminar, which takes place at Sintons offices, at the Cube, Barrack Road, Newcastle, on Wednesday June 10, starting at 5.15pm and finishing at 7.30pm.

To register please call Margaret Ord at Sintons on (0191) 226-7892 or email her at m.ord@sintons.co.uk . The event is free.
