Tees profits praise

AN engineering consultant today credited the contribution of its Teesside office, as it posted a 21% increase in pre-tax profits to £13.4m.

White Young Green, consultants to the built, natural and social environment reported a strong set of results for the year to June 30, including a 32% increase in revenue to £220.6m.

The company said its Thornaby office, which employs more than 70 people, had contributed to another successful year for the group, with its “dynamic forward-thinking manner.”

It carried out a wide range of engineering, management and environmental projects across the North-east, including a £15m project to build a new landmark pedestrian bridge across the River Tees in Stockton and the five-star leisure development Rockliffe Hall.

White Young Green’s managing director David Wood said: “I am delighted with the contribution the Teesside office has made to these annual results.

“Its dynamic, forward-thinking manner coupled with an innovative design solution has ensured a number of prestigious project wins over the last 12 months, working for clients such as Kier Northern, Tees Valley Regeneration, Middlesbrough Council and English Partnerships.”

White Young Green also reported a 23% increase in its order book to a record £380m, with Mr Wood hinting there would be scope to expand the team on Teesside.

He said: “Looking to the future, we will continue to expand our Teesside team and further diversify the range of services we offer with a current focus on further reinforcing our strong reputation in the industrial, energy and leisure sectors.”

In February, the company reported it had seen its profits soar by more than a third in the previous six months.

The company said pre-tax profits climbed by 31% in the six months to December 31 to £6.9m.

At that time, the company said the Teesside team had been successful in securing contracts overseas, including work in Brazil, Taiwan and India.

The Teesside office is also providing design engineering and transportation expertise on the new £37m Gateshead College campus based at the Baltic Business Quarter.
