Car tuner takes lead in Europe

ASPECIALIST car tuning business in Gateshead is aiming to treble its turnover in the next five years as it prepares to open a £1m garage and win more business around the world from fans of the sportier motor.
Revolution Motorstore in South Shore Road, near the Baltic art gallery, already enjoys annual sales of £1.4m to performance car fans and owner Glenn Campbell believes he can take this figure over £4m.
The company’s new base in Clock Mill Road, near the MetroCentre in Gateshead, is nearing completion and Mr Campbell is considering more outlets further afield to sell specialist alloy wheels and sporty tyres.
The 37-year-old managing director, who previously owned an electrical contracting company, switched to the fast lane and launched Revolution 10 years ago to provide a tuning and accessories service.
Now the business has 30,000 customers around the globe, though with a particularly loyal following in its native North-East. The new Revolution House tuning centre is to open at the end of this month. Mr Campbell said: “It’s a very exciting time for us. Revolution’s new headquarters is going to be bigger and better on every level and will boast the very latest technology and facilities available anywhere in Europe.
“We have a massive following in the North-East and now it’s time to take the big step of having our own purpose-built facility. We will be moving from just 400sq ft to 700sq ft and on a one-acre site. We will also be moving up from just one ramp to three, and our fitting centre will have everything from the latest tyre machines which fit up to 30-inch rims and nitrogen tyre inflation to the most advanced wheel alignment system available in the world.”
Mr Campbell said: “Within five years we want to treble our turnover and open more branches. We want to cover the North-East better and go further afield – maybe to Leeds or Carlisle.”
The firm employs nine full-time staff and the move will create three jobs and a second apprenticeship. The new store will also have a new call centre.
