CTEB follows green way

CORUS Tubes Energy Business has signed up to a lean green manufacturing project that it hopes will slash its energy bills.

The Hartlepool company aims to use its resources more efficiently and save on fuel bills as well as reduce its carbon footprint by using regional development agency One NorthEast’s Energy Resource Efficiency (ERE) project.

John Joyce, CTEB works engineer, said: “By improving energy efficiency, we are not only reducing our energy cost, which enables the company to be even more competitive, we are also helping protect the environment.

“This can only help us in our drive to improve our competitiveness, win more orders, secure more jobs and increase profitability.”

ERE uses best practice from the Carbon Trust and the Energy Savings Trust to increase awareness of energy resource efficiency and improve the general understanding of energy use throughout organisations.

Allen Jones, senior energy adviser, said: “As part of its commitment to energy reduction, CTEB is raising energy awareness with all employees at the 84in Pipe Mill and rolling out the programme to the workforce at the 42in Pipe Mill.

“Employees will gain an understanding of energy usage in the mills and how they contribute to reducing energy consumption.”

The £5m ERE scheme is helping businesses tackle rising energy costs with teams of engineers working closely with firms.

The Evening Gazette’s Renew, Reuse, Recycle campaign is urging more people to take action to improve the environment. And we are looking for individuals, firms and organisations to sign up to our Green Pledge.
