Championing a technological future

THE North-East Business Awards 2006 Technology champion i4u is a software company that has created a successful business helping medical professionals make vital decisions about patients – quickly.
Based at All Saints Business Centre in Newcastle, it was set up by GP Ian Purves, a professor in health informatics, seven years ago.
The i4u software is designed to give advice based on the latest medical information to help doctors prescribe the right drug.
The publication of more than 16,000 new medical articles a year – a body of information that is impossible for one person to keep up to date with – complicates the process yet further.
i4u chief executive Sam Elliot says: “Because of Ian’s unique background, straddling both medical experience and IT, the software is very robust and easy to use and its best feature is that it collates information incredibly quickly.”
