Chemicals firm sales up

SPECIALITY chemicals company Johnson Matthey, which employs about 600 on Teesside, has seen its profits climb by 15%.

The company said pre-tax profits for the six months to the end of September had climbed to £120.1m.

Sales were also up 20% to £3.5bn.

The group said prospects for the second half were encouraging, with earnings growth likely to be similar to that achieved in the first half.

The group consists of three Divisons, Environmental Technologies, Precious Metals, and Fine Chemicals and Catalysts.

The Environmental Technologies Division takes in the Process Technologies business which is managed from its offices on Teesside where it employs around 600 people.

Neil Carson, chief executive of Johnson Matthey, said: “Johnson Matthey has delivered another period of strong growth in the first half of 2007/08.

“Prospects for the second half remain encouraging.”
