AN investment of £500,000 in new equipment has helped the nemc group become one of the largest mail distribution centres in the region.
The group is now one of the few direct mailing houses in the UK to install a continuous laser printer.
The Xerox 850 continuous feed printer can handle print runs in excess of four million A4 images or two million feet per week and will enable the company to move into new market areas.
nemc group (North East Mailing Centre) recently celebrated its sixth year in operation and the despatching of more than two billion items of mail since 2001. The fully automated direct mail operation attracts blue-chip companies of all sizes from across the UK involved in the media, construction, travel, sport and the public sector.
The 25,000 sq ft centre on the Crowther Industrial Estate in Washington, includes a full colour printing service, an IT data suite, automated direct mail production, warehouse space and a contact centre.
“This is an initial purchase and we are planning to continue investing in new equipment into 2008 as part of a programme of planned growth,” said chief executive Howard Matthews.
“This technology means that we can move into a new market area where there is a great deal of potential for us and it will bring new jobs in its wake.”
The nemc group has a turnover in excess of £3m. It currently employs 40 permanent staff but numbers can double at peak times or for particular contracts.
