Top companies go green

A NUMBER of top companies yesterday signed up to a programme aimed at cutting emissions by millions of tonnes over the next few years, while saving £300m in energy bills.

London’s Mayor Ken Livingstone said Ikea, Marks & Spencer and EDF Energy were among the first firms to join the "groundbreaking" scheme, which aims to give businesses support and advice on how to become carbon efficient. Mr Livingstone said: "The impressive range of companies who have already signed up to the Green500 and Better Buildings Partnership shows that leading businesses want to take a lead in helping to prevent climate change and recognise that it increasingly makes commercial sense to do so.

"I am confident that many more businesses will now follow their example."
