Document firm plans to expand

A DOCUMENT management company has invested in state-of-the-art technology as it looks to increase its workforce by a quarter.

David Popay established Datatron in 1996 and since then his business has gone from strength to strength, having scanned more than 200 million documents for clients across the UK.

Now with 24 employees, he plans to boost its workforce by a further 20% in the first few months of next year.

Mr Popay said: “We have remained at the forefront of our industry through constant innovation and investment in scanning technology.”

Built on client recommendation, the business serves a raft of clients from the four corners of the UK and long-standing clientele include the Newcastle NHS Trust, which now has the largest digital medical records archive in the UK.

Mr Popay said: “We have recently introduced to the region the IBML Document Scanning Solution, one of only six privately-owned machines in the UK.

“With this we aim to retain our competitive edge and increase our growth by providing superior document management services.”

With help from Business Link, the company has achieved quality management system ISO9000 and now Mr Popay and his team are looking to gain ISO27001 to further improve network security and add value to the services already provided by Datatron.

Mr Popay added: “I initially approached Business Link for support and guidance on establishing the business and have found them a great support and resource for information, contacts and direction as the company has developed.

“From relocation support to help with purchasing our current bespoke premises, financial support for ICT training to guidance through its growth period, Business Link has helped me every step of the way.”

Mali Saha from Business Link said: “Mr Popay is a true entrepreneur with an ambition to make a difference to the North-East business community.

“The company has tremendous potential to grow and I look forward to continuing to work alongside him as business expands.”
