This way to Steppe into Russia

THE opportunities available for firms who want to tap into the Russian market will be outlined at a conference this month.

Experts will offer export guidance and advice for firms operating in sectors ranging from transport to financial services to energy and engineering.

David Coppock, UK Trade & Investment’s International trade director, who will chair the conference, said: “The demand for UK goods and services in Russia extends across many sectors including transport, automotive and engineering, energy, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, media and education.

“The UK is a lead investor in this market and we aim to make sure North-East companies are in a position to benefit from the significant business opportunities available.

“This conference brings together an exclusive team of experts to help companies understand how to access this high growth market, learn about the business culture and environment and understand the political, legal and financial issues involved.

“There will also be a chance for one-to-one consultations to gain direct and practical advice for a company’s own specific product or service.

“It’s a great way to begin your research and find out how you can successfully tap into this market.”

Guest speakers at the conference will include Chris Bowers from the British Embassy in Moscow, Stephen Dalziel of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce and David Cant of Albion (Overseas) Ltd.

Experts from PricewaterhouseCooper will discuss the legal and financial issues while other topics will include the culture and environment, preconceptions/misconceptions of the Russian market, pragmatics of doing business in Russia and business opportunities.

One-to-one consultations will be available for several industry sectors including transport, legal and financial services, automotive and engineering, creative, ICT, energy, oil and gas and power and construction.

The UK Trade & Investment-organised event is hosting the ‘Steppe into Russia’ conference at The Baltic, Gateshead on Thursday, January 31, 2008, between 9am and 3.30pm.

Tickets for the conference cost £30, including lunch.
