Olympic bonus within reach
BUSINESSES in the region are set to benefit from a £21bn economic ripple created by the London Olympics.
And, as exclusively revealed by nebusiness in December, development agency One NorthEast is determined that local companies stake their claim.
Yesterday, it launched a business “dating agency” with the Olympic Development Authority to help smaller firms benefit from about 75,000 contracts expected to be awarded in the run-up to 2012.
Already, 300 North-east companies have registered to receive email alerts of tenders from the ODA and four are supplying the project. The scale of the development, which according to LloydsTSB is worth £21bn, of which £4.4bn is likely to be spent in the North, made it difficult for smaller firms to compete.
The new web-based system, called CompeteFor at www.london2012.com/business automatically matches them with suitable tenders.
