Station to be out of action
NUCLEAR power firm British Energy has confirmed the Hartlepool station is likely to be out of action until the second half of 2008.
British Energy said remedial engineering work would take place to return to service all four reactors at its two sites at Hartlepool and Heysham 1 in Lancashire. It said this would be in a phased process over the second and third quarters of the company’s 2008/09 financial year - between July and December.
Both sites were affected by the discovery in October of wire corrosion problems within a boiler closure unit at one of the two reactors at Hartlepool.
The cost of the remedial engineering work is not expected to exceed £50m.
The remedial work will not affect staffing at the site.
