New Hartlepool pub creates 30 jobs

IT was smooth sailing at the launch of a new Teesside pub, which has created about 30 jobs.

The Tall Ships, Ember Inns’ £2.3m new build pub on Mulberry Rise in Hartlepool, is a new addition to the town’s pub scene.

“It was a very positive occasion,” said an Embers Inn spokeswoman.

“Everyone is delighted we’ve opened.”

Local customer Dave Atkinson pulled the first pint after bidding £800 in the Kay Smith Research Fund charity auction, which was arranged by Tall Ships general manager Claire Stephenson.

The local breast cancer charity was set up in memory of Kay Smith, a Hartlepool woman and cousin of Dave’s wife Susan, who lost her battle with the disease.

Dave said: “The charity is a really good cause, which is why I was happy to bid £800 for the chance to pull the first pint at the Tall Ships.”

The pub marks a significant step forward in the expansion of pub chain Mitchells and Butlers’ portfolio.

Glenda Wadsworth, regional business manager for Ember Inns in Hartlepool, said: “The Tall Ships is a fantastic new addition to the Ember portfolio.

“We have already experienced great success with our other Hartlepool pub, the White House, and are confident we can take this to new levels with the Tall Ships.”
