New £3.7m Prestige project

TEESSIDE PROPERTY tycoon Raj Singh, who built his empire on the back of growing demand for high-end living for the elderly, is planning another £3.7m, 67-bed care home on the former site of Skerne House on the outskirts of Darlington.

Singh’s Prestige Group will hand over the running of the care home to an operator on a 30-year lease when it is completed in spring.

Teesside-born businessman Mr Singh, has built seven care homes since 1994, providing care for more than 350 elderly people.

Skerne House had been converted into four flats and in 2005 Darlington Council gave planning permission for it to be demolished and 18 self-contained flats built in its place, but this development never came to fruition.

Mr Singh’s company also runs a hotel and a portfolio of investment properties.

He said the Darlington development will provide a “very high standard in comfort”.
