Media agency lands lucrative deal

AN award-winning digital media agency in Stockton has won £250,000 from investor UK Steel Enterprise to help it break into the lucrative US market.
Set up with only £100 in 2005 by Simon Pitts and Tony Marshall, Sayu has grown spectacularly from a “bedroom-based” web electronics business to a £20m turnover company in three years. It expects to increase staff from 26 to 40 by 2010.
Specialists in e-commerce advertising and marketing services, including pay-per-click management, search engine optimisation, website development and payment system development, Sayu’s client list includes businesses involved in sectors from global positioning systems, mortgages and kitchen appliances to hot tubs, toys, chandeliers and even drug rehabilitation.
“This market moves at such a speed that we have to react very fast to take advantage of new opportunities,” said Simon Pitts.
“Having the investment from UK Steel Enterprise in place means that we can develop our e-commerce services and our plans to enter new markets in line with demand.
“This will also involve taking on the additional specialised staff, including linguists and programmers that we currently need,” he said.
Sayu won both the Internet and the Innovation Business Award at the 2006 North East Business Awards.
