Strong results for consultants
THE North-east boss of building consultants White Young Green (WYG) is confident that current projects in the Tees Valley will not be delayed by the property market slowdown, as the company revealed strong interim results.
Regional managing director Mr Wood said results across the group were “better than anticipated” and that WYG’s offices in Stockton and Newcastle had contributed around 5% of total revenues.
Leeds-based WYG revealed a 35% increase in revenue to £134.1m and a 38% rise in operating profit to £11.7m for the half year to December 2007, while its net order was boosted by 18% to £390m.
Mr Wood said: “There will be no immediate impact on ongoing projects such as the Rockliffe Hall development. We have a strong order book and are looking to increase our planning capability so that we can become involved in projects at an earlier stage.
“The current slowdown in the housing market means that we have to diversify and by recruiting high-quality planning experts we can start to make things happen.”
In the Teesside office WYG employs around 72 staff and provides design engineering, environmental and management services across the built, natural and social environment.
It is undertaking work on regional projects including phase three extensions to Stockton Riverside College, the redevelopment of the Bede College campus at Billingham, and has an ongoing role in the multi-million pound Rockliffe Hall Leisure Development.
Mr Wood said the regional offices were embarking on a “sustained recruitment drive to target high-calibre staff across the board”, including local graduates. The office has forged links with Teesside University by offering a mentoring service to engineering students.
