£65m steel coup

THE TEES Valley’s ability to operate on a world stage has been demonstrated again as steelmaker Corus beat off a host of international companies to scoop a contract worth up to £65m.

The steel giant’s Skinningrove site has been named as one of three that will supply 80,000 tonnes of steel for the Royal Navy’s biggest ever aircraft carriers.

The good news will not only help to boost the industry’s image in the area, but will also showcase the talents of local workers who are helping to put the Tees Valley on the global map.

Around 90% of the steel will be manufactured at Corus’ three UK operations.
