THE £7m Teesside operation of a Danish drugs company is facing closure.
Sixty-five staff at Lundbeck’s Seal Sands site could be made redundant as the company revealed it was looking to sell the facility.
The company said it was streamlining the production processes of one of its pharmaceutical products, making the Seal Sands facility surplus to requirements.
Peter Trickett, operations director at the site, said: “If these attempts to find a buyer are not successful, there is a risk that the site may be closed down.”
The company researches new drugs for treatment of disorders, including depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
The plant at Seal Sands was selected as a finalist for the ‘Facility of the Year 2005’.
