Top companies back youngsters

THE desire to encourage enterprise among the young has prompted two prominent North East companies to support an annual award.
The final of the Young Enterprise Awards takes place on June 17 and The Journal and our sister paper the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette are supporting the annual event. Wellstream International of Newcastle is sponsoring the environment category. Chris Braithwaite, its chief operating officer said: “Health, safety, environmental and quality performance are all critical elements of businesses today. “In the past companies have focussed more on the safety and quality aspects of their business, but critically environmental performance is now coming to the fore. Today’s students will be entering the business world at a time where environmental expectations and social responsibilities are crucial ingredients for success. “The various Young Enterprise initiatives increasingly involve environmental aspects and Wellstream is delighted to be able to sponsor an award that recognises achievement in this critical area. “We are very much looking forward to judging the applications.”Prudhoe’s Specials Laboratory is sponsoring the Sir John Moore award. Fiona Cruickshank, managing director, said: “The Specials Laboratory has been working with Young Enterprise for many years now and as a business we’re keen to continue offering our support to the young talent within the region. “Young Enterprise North East does a fantastic job of bringing together the local business community with those who are likely to become the business leaders of tomorrow. It also plays a hugely important role in nurturing a positive entrepreneurial spirit among the region’s young people which we actively support.” Some 20,000 school and college students aged between four and 24 take part in YENE initiatives every school year. The final takes place on Tuesday, June 17, at Newcastle Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park.To book a table contact Debbie Nicholls, event executive at ncjMedia, on (0191) 201-6435.
