Record year for engineering firm
ENGINEERING firm Amec has smashed previous records by announcing a 59% rise in annual pre-tax profits to £126.5m, today.
And the company, which employs about 1,000 people in the Tees Valley at sites in Darlington and Wynyard, said strong results seen in its energy, power and process sectors were expected to continue.
Amec has completed its programme to sell-off non-core businesses, first announced in 2006.
The company has refocused away from construction in favour of project management in oil, gas and nuclear work and is a major player in the green power industry
Chief executive Samir Brikho said: “These are excellent results. Our prospects have never been stronger.
“The outlook in our markets remains strong and we are delivering significant improvements in our performance.”
Amec said today that it expected to spend £100m on acquisitions during the first half of 2008.
