Hertel in market as it unveils expansion

DUTCH industrial giant Hertel has announced plans to continue its expansion across the North East after snapping up a Teesside firm.

The group, which has its UK headquarters in Middlesbrough, has acquired Billingham-based McGill Services, a supplier of accommodation modules to the British Royal Navy through BAE Systems.

And Hertel, which two years ago bought the Kvaerner’s Engineering Services workshop and maintenance business at Wilton, has plans to make further acquisitions in the region.

A company statement said: “Hertel is continuing to look at further investment in the region with significant improvements to the recently-purchased workshops and is also reviewing its headquarters facilities in Skippers Lane.”

Meanwhile, Mark Witjens, Hertel defence and offshore managing director, said: “The acquisition of McGill Services sees our operations across the Tees Valley continue to grow as a global multi-discipline force.

“This continues to protect local skills while adding McGill’s capabilities to the architectural outfitting and insulation we were already able to offer to Naval and merchant vessels.”
