Architect supports young enterprise

THE spirit of enterprise is growing in the North East and to celebrate that burgeoning success The Journal and our Teesside sister paper The Evening Gazette are supporting the annual Young Enterprise Awards for 2008.

Along with over a dozen of the North East’s leading companies and organisations we appreciate the key to the region’s prosperity lies in encouraging our youth to view entrepreneurship as a viable career choice.

There are 13 award categories and the sponsor of the Learning By Doing Award is Newcastle architects _space. A spokesman said: “Industry often complains about young people not being prepared for the work environment.

“There are two ways to approach this issue. You can either criticise the situation and leave it to others to do something about it, or you can get involved and help young people understand the needs of employers.

“This is what we do at _space and we try to expose as many young people as possible to industry and assist them in finding and developing opportunities through enterprise.

“Young Enterprise encompasses and embraces the linkages between school and industry, as well as encouraging entrepreneurial thinking.

“We are delighted to work with Young Enterprise and support them in the excellent work they do.

“Our recent _space to think differently programme reflects our commitment to this worthy cause and the link that we have with Young Enterprise, which we only hope to strengthen in the future.”

Some 20,000 students aged between four and 24 take part in YENE initiatives every school year. The final takes place on Tuesday, June 17, at Newcastle Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park. To book a table contact Debbie Nicholls, event executive at ncjMedia, on (0191) 201-6435.
