In search of happiness
ARE Tees workers happy with their lot or frantically scouring the local jobs pages in search of a new career?
Research by global HR consultancy BlessingWhite has revealed that 22% of UK staff categorise themselves as ‘discontented and unproductive’ or ‘disengaged’.
But are these the feelings aired around the water coolers of offices and factories on Teesside?
The study said the situation is most dire among those just entering the labour force - the so called ‘Generation Y’ – where almost half said they were ‘dissatisfied’, or worse.
UK managers are blamed as being the root cause of this malaise, failing to inspire loyalty and commitment among workers.
Only 3% of those interviewed said they would stay in their role because they were committed to their boss, and fewer than one in five felt their current job offered significant opportunities to advance their career.
