Taking a greener course

ASPIRING environmentalists will be able to kick-start their green careers thanks to new courses being launched at Teesside University in response to growing demands from industry.

The cross-disciplinary sustainability programmes were set up to train the next generation of project managers, scientists, product designers and consultants.

But the university said demand was also growing for sustainability champions - experts who work to change the culture of an organisation from the inside.

The BA degrees are the first in the North-east to focus on the sustainability issue.

“We’re riding on the edge of a new wave,” said Paul Denison, principal lecturer in design at the school of arts & media.

“In the past people fell into the area of sustainability almost by accident, and tended to learn on the job. We want to offer employers skills that are more directly honed to their needs.
