Town centre action

REGENERATION plans are being drawn up to revitalise the borough of Sedgefield.

Real estate consultancy group DTZ is heading up a team to advise Sedgefield Council on an Area Action Plan (AAP) for Spennymoor town centre and regeneration proposals for the centres of Chilton, Ferryhill and Shildon.

The regeneration of Sedgefield’s town centres is a key priority for the council, which has invested in town centre improvement initiatives including environmental enhancement schemes in Spennymoor and Shildon.

Councillor Agnes Armstrong, leader of Sedgefield Council, said the aim was to create a series of vibrant and progressive town centres.

She said: “DTZ will prepare an Area Action Plan that will clearly emphasise this vision and translate it into a robust and deliverable planning framework”.

Stephen Miles, development associate director at DTZ, said the plans could attract new investment to the area.
