Workers looking trim

CONSTRUCTION site workers on the multi-million pound Middlesbrough College site ended their daily toils with haircuts and beard trims, courtesy of charitable students.
Level 2 barbering students helped spruce up the workforce at Laing O’Rourke who are building their £68m learning centre at Middlehaven.
Ten budding hairdressers used the opportunity to have their new-found skills officially assessed by tutors.
Construction workers helped them raise money for cancer research by making a donation for every trim.
The college is expected to open its doors to students in September, heralding a new era in education in Middlesbrough.
It was the first time the hairdressing students had been given the opportunity to see first hand the development of the new college.
Student Hannah Walker, 18, of North Ormesby, said: “We couldn’t find enough willing male volunteers at college so thought we would come down to the site where there was a captive audience.
“It has been valuable experience working on real clients and great to see the new college being built. The hairdressing and salon facilities are going to be fantastic.”
Students offer the public the chance of cut price hairdressing every Tuesday at Middlesbrough College’s Kirby campus, from 3pm to 8pm.
