PRIME Minister Gordon Brown put biofuels back in the headlines today as he called a world food crisis summit at No 10.
Writing on the Downing Street website, he indicated that the Government’s enthusiasm for biofuels may be waning, saying that the UK will need to be “more selective in our support” for biofuels.
“We need to look closely at the impact on food prices and the environment of different production methods and to ensure we are more selective in our support,” he wrote.
Today’s debate will be watched closely by biofuels firms of Teesside, which have accused the Government of not doing enough to support the UK industry. They, along with leading politicians in Europe, have put weight behind the Gazette’s Back Our Biofuels campaign. To add your support, go to nebusiness.co.uk.
