Hauliers hit at oil ‘crisis’
WHILE Tees Valley road hauliers were not part of a lorry drivers’ diesel price protest through London today, they were there in spirit.
Paul Stiller, of Stiller Transport, said the escalating fuel price was “not just bad for the haulage industry, but also for UK plc”.
“The price of diesel has risen more than 30% in nine months,” he said.
“It is a crisis situation,” said David Allinson, of Darlington-based George Allinson.
Dave Pullan, of Teesport-based Pullan Transport, said: “Today’s price is ridiculous.
“In 1990 it cost us 28p litre to buy in bulk net of VAT and it is now £1.14 net of VAT.”
