Experience is highly valued

MANUFACTURERS have an increasingly positive attitude towards employing older workers to address challenges posed by skills shortages and an ageing population, according to a report from manufacturers’ organisation EEF Northern.

The report, An Ageing Workforce – How are manufacturers preparing? shows firms believe older workers to be a valuable part of their workforce, more productive and less likely to be absent than younger counterparts.

The more physical nature of manufacturing is also not seen as a barrier to older workers.

EEF Northern director, Alan Hall, said the reports showed “older workers are highly valued by manufacturing employers”.
