Chilly start to Mansell’s mission to raise £1m

AFUNDRAISING drive got off to a brisk – if somewhat chilly start – when these hardy souls tramped across the hills of south west Northumberland on a quest to raise £1m.

National construction company Mansell is celebrating its 100th anniversary and plans to mark their centenary year by raising the massive amount.

Each of the 22 Mansell business units have adopted a charity and been given a target amount to raise. The North East business unit hopes to raise £23,000 for the NSPCC to help support vulnerable and abused children.

Employees are taking part in a number of fundraising initiatives over the course of the year.

These started with the gruelling 25-mile Allendale Challenge hike, others will include battling it out on the pitch in a five-a-side football competition, showing off their swing at a corporate golf day and getting in the saddle for a coast-to-coast bike ride.

The office will also be organising a number of other activities to keep everyone raising as much money as possible for the children’s charity.

Katie Bland, corporate fundraising manager for the NSPCC, said: “We’re really pleased that Mansell’s North East business unit has adopted us and is working so hard to raise money to help end cruelty to children. Its support for us means that the NSPCC will be able to continue to make a real difference to the lives of abused children, young people and their families.”

Rachel Hogarth, regional learning and development co-ordinator for Mansell in the North East, said: “We are proud to be working with the NSPCC and hope to raise much-needed money for children in the North East. All of our staff have really got behind the charity.”
