Free advice offer on legal pitfalls

START-UP businesses are being offered free advice to avoid legal pitfalls before they start trading.
Newcastle solicitors Smithson Law Firm LLP is trying to win more custom from small businesses by highlighting the dangers of ignorance of the legal complexities of setting up in business.
Senior partner Michael Smithson said: “Setting off on the wrong track legally can be crippling to a fledging business in terms of wasted time and finances, whereas investing in good advice initially can be a safeguard.
“New ventures must consider the fact that initial legal advice costs far less than the cost of seeking assistance to rectify a problem.”
The firm, based in Newcastle’s High Bridge Street, is offering new businesses a free initial consultation during May and June. Mr Smithson added: “With the best will in the world, full compliance with the law is virtually impossible for any start up business.
Seeking legal advice from the very start is very beneficial to all new ventures, but particularly for those selling services or who are involved in joint ventures or collaborations. Legal advice is a valuable way of helping new enterprises set priorities.”
