Tees company is top place to work
Hi-tech manufacturer 3M, which has offices in Newton Aycliffe and Northallerton, has been voted Europe’s fourth best company to work for.
The firm, which employs around 320 at the Aycliffe site and many more worldwide, lies alongside IT giants Microsoft and Google in the list of the 50 best places to work, published yesterday by the Financial Times. The league is compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute using 15 national studies across Europe.
Adrian Hughes, environmental, health and safety manager at 3M, Aycliffe, has been with what he described as a “first class” company for 28 years.
He added: “The employment terms and conditions are second to none. We work in a positive, proactive culture and staff are given opportunities for career development.”
Environmental, health and safety coordinator Martyn Harvey said staff at 3M didn’t want to leave.
“The average length of service at the Aycliffe site is around 16 years. The company has a flexible management team and the opinions of employees are listened to and acted upon.”
3M, which manufactures hi-tech respirators at the Aycliffe site, was higher in the list than human resources giant PwC, which came in 10th place.
Microsoft was voted the best place to work, followed by Google in second and supplier of IT equipment, Cisco, in third.
