Marine firms on lookout for recruits

SOME of the region’s leading marine design and engineering companies are looking for new talent.
The Marine Recruitment and Skills Fair is the first of its type and comes as companies are seeking to recruit new blood so as to meet a high level of demand for their services from across the globe.
And there is still time for companies to exhibit at the fair and take advantage of the exposure it will give them to a new talent pool.
Coordinated by the Marine Design Centre, a member-based organisation based in Newcastle, whose aim is to assist and support the growth of the sector in the region, it is being held at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle.
Supported by the ncjMedia newspapers The Journal, Evening Chronicle and Middlesbrough Evening Gazette, it will bring design and engineering companies into contact with skilled workers in the North East, graduates, apprentices and others seeking new employment. Training providers will also be on hand to advise on acquiring appropriate skills.
Presentations during the event will focus on helping individuals and companies to develop skills and identify what support is available for industry.
David Hewitt, director of the Marine Design Centre, said: “The sector is currently experiencing tremendous demand and it is anticipated that this will continue for some time to come.”
