ENERGY giant npower is to move 900 staff in Newcastle into a new purpose-built office.
The team from Carliol House will be moving into the new £300m Baltic Business Quarter, which is being developed on the Gateshead bank of the Tyne.
The business employs a further 2,300 people in the region, split between Ravens House in Gateshead’s Team Valley and Phoenix House in Thornaby. npower’s lease on Carliol House is approaching its end and the company had been looking for new offices for some time.
A spokesperson said: “Our current lease on the premises at Carliol House in Newcastle will expire in 2010.
“And as that site is itself part of wider plans to regenerate the city centre, we have been looking at alternative sites in the area which are capable of offering our business a new home. We are pleased to announce that we have signed a lease on three brand new buildings in the new Baltic Business Quarter.
“They are currently in planning and are expected to be ready in 2010.
“npower has a proud history working in the North East and we are pleased to find new premises that will provide our people with the perfect working environment for the coming years.”
