Tees firm awaits top award

THE team responsible for a massive consolidation of Sembcorp's warehousing at Wilton will learn next week if they have won a top award.

The 26-strong team is up for the UK Warehousing Association Team of the Year award, which is due to be announced at the Dorchester Hotel, London, on July 2.

Responsible for storing and delivering everything from gloves and goggles to huge engineering parts for Sembcorp’s customers, including Sabic, Invista, Dow and Huntsman, the operation has undergone a radical transformation during the past year.

Code-named Project Lapwing, the challenge was to move almost 80,000 items contained in two buildings into a single area roughly the size of the Boro’s Riverside Stadium, without any interruption to normal business service.

Sean Gleeson, services business general manager for Sembcorp, said: “I'm extremely proud of the team and their recognition by the UKWA in making it to the final is a great reward for completing an immensely difficult task safely and without disruption to our customers.”
