Third Qashqai production line live tomorrow

NISSAN Sunderland’s 24-hour Qashqai production line will go live at 8.45am tomorrow to meet the demand for what has proved to be one of its most successful models.

Eight hundred new staff have been recruited to work on the third Qashqai shift, taking the total plant workforce to 5,000 people.

There are currently two production lines at Nissan – one for Qashqais and one for Micras.

From Monday, the Qashqai line will operate around the clock.

Trevor Mann, senior vice-president of manufacturing in Europe, said: “Qashqai has proven so popular that we need to increase our volume to significantly more than 200,000 cars this year.

“The introduction of the third shift is a large commitment by Nissan in its UK operation.”
