Power to the people
HARTLEPOOL's nuclear power station begins a charm offensive this Saturday as British Energy draws closer to announcing sites for its second generation plants.
Spokesman Martin Harvey said it was the first time the station, which will be setting up stall in the Sir William Gray Suite on the quayside, had taken to the streets.
“I’d be surprised if people didn’t want to talk about new build but this is just an attempt to keep the dialogue going in the North.”
Nuclear experts from the plant will be available to the public between 9am and 2pm. The company has already said it will begin redevelopment of its four southern sites first, but the future of its remaining five nuclear plants is unclear, particularly since the bidding war that followed the Government’s announcement that it was to sell its 35% stake stalled last month.
After rejecting French firm EDF’s bid, the Sunday Times reported that British Energy was considering a series of joint ventures for the company's nuclear development sites.
