Export experts hailed

THE cream of the region’s export businesses were recognised for their achievements at a gala dinner last night.

The North East Exporters Awards 2008 recognised the ‘experts in exports’ – individuals who helped their businesses boost their overseas trade. They each received £1,000 and a trophy for their achievements at the event at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead.

Keynote speaker, David Coppock, UK Trade & Investment’s international trade director, said: “The North East has plenty to celebrate, having topped the £11bn mark for the value of goods and services exported from the region last year.

“The region is also attracting more and more overseas businesses, bringing with them thousands of jobs and millions of pounds into the North East economy.”

UK T&I was one of the main sponsors of the event, which also included the North East Chamber of Commerce and One NorthEast.
