A “VISIONARY” entrepreneur, who helped Middlesbrough secure systems firm Onyx Group break into Dubai, has scooped a North East Exporters Award.
Chief technical officer, Sean Allison, won the Passport to Export category of this year’s awards, held at the Gateshead Hilton Hotel last night to celebrate the region’s international trade exploits.
Mr Allison’s eye for overseas opportunities helped Onyx, which 12 months ago had no intention of operating outside the UK, to explore trading possibilities in international markets and develop an export action plan.
During the past six months, the firm has opened up an office in Dubai’s famous Emirates Towers and won its first overseas contract with an $85bn company.
Mr Allison is currently working in Dubai to develop the Onyx brand and source new business.
Run by UK Trade & Investment, the awards are given to individuals who make a significant contribution to their companies’ export business. Graeme Moore, a director of JLM Global Foods in Darlington, was runner-up in the New Exporter Award category.
