‘Work for dole’ fears

RADICAL plans to get hundreds of thousands of people off benefits and into work were being launched today by the Government.

While some employers have hailed the move for providing more choice in the labour market, others are concerned bosses will be encouraged to take on unskilled or unreliable staff.

The move is part of a radical plan to get thousands of people off benefits and into work.

Gary Watson, managing director of recruitment firm New Group - a supplier of staff to Teesport - welcomed the move in principle but said it could become a “management burden” for bosses.

He said: “Traditionally companies are cautious about who they employ. They will be looking for honesty, reliability and a good work ethic.”
