Gearing up for taking the hydrogen highway
ONE of the masterminds behind California’s pioneering hydrogen highway will inspire delegates at a two-day conference aimed at Teesside’s fast-growing alternative fuels sector.
Among exhibitors at the Partners4Automotive event at Sunderland University on September 17 and 18 will be researchers from Wilton’s Centre for Process for Innovation (CPI) which opened the first facility of its type looking at fuel cell technology earlier this year.
It became the only UK organisation to become a full member of the Research Grouping for the 940m euro Framework Seven Programme looking into fuel cells and hydrogen technologies.
Dr Jon Helliwell from CPI, said the event cemented the region’s position at the forefront of developments in fuel cell technology.
The event organiser Phil Eadon said the UK had much to learn from countries further down the hydrogen highway, such as the US, which aims to connect north and south California with a major hydrogen pipeline.
Tim Armstrong, chief scientist from the US Department of Energy, will be at the event to talk about the project.
