New base for advice on energy

BUSINESSES are being offered advice and support to help them develop new energy-efficient technologies and attract the inward investment to turn them into commercially viable projects.

A new organisation called Renew, which will be based in offices in Northumberland and Teesside, will help companies to develop low-carbon and environmentally-friendly processes and equipment to be used by industry.

The organisation will take over the remit of Renew Tees Valley, which ran for six years. Renew will extend the idea to the whole of the region from its headquarters inside the Centre for Process Innovation’s (CPI) base at the Wilton Centre in Redcar and an office at the New and Renewable Energy Centre in Blyth.

Dr Graham Hillier, director of low- carbon energy at CPI, said: “Renew provides strategic support to organisations looking to maximise the economic opportunities and carbon reductions achievable from the application of low-carbon energy and environmental technologies within projects and operations.

“Renew will act as a catalyst by working collaboratively to help these exciting projects get off the ground.”

Ian Williams, director of business and industry at One NorthEast, added: “Basing Renew within CPI will bring additional advantages of integration with their low-carbon initiatives, and provides a focus for driving forward this activity across the region.”
