Start-up firms urged to enter awards

ENTREPRENEURS are being encouraged to enter The Best New Business Awards 2008, which recognises successful start-ups across Tees Valley.

Now in its ninth year, the awards are sponsored by Business Link in association with independent financial advisors, Colin Brown LighthouseXpress and Tees Valley Partnership.

They recognise the achievements of businesses across eight categories, including community, creative industries, environmental, manufacturing, marketing, retail, service and young entrepreneur.

The awards are open to companies that have been trading for a maximum of three years and winners will receive £500 plus a trophy, with the overall winner receiving an additional £1,000.

Past winners have included manufacturing company Propipe in Hartlepool, which makes tools to clean, empty or inspect pipes, and dress designer Kate Fearnley in Middlesbrough, whose bespoke designs have graced the shoulders of Girls Aloud, Hollyoaks star Gemma Merna, and ex-Sugar Babe Mutya Buena.

Deadline for entries is October 27.

The awards will culminate in a dinner for all nominated businesses and will be attended by the sponsors as well as key organisations supporting the Tees Valley business community. The event will be held at the Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough on February 10, 2009.
